Mangal Dosh (Manglik Dosha): Check, Effects and Cancellation
Mangal dosh is one of the most talked-about doshas before marriage, and one of the most misunderstood. Here is what it actually means, how it is checked, and why it is far less frightening than it is often made to sound.
What is Mangal dosh?
A person is called manglik when Mars (Mangal) sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the kundli, counted from the Lagna. Many astrologers also check from the Moon and Venus. Mars is energy and drive; in these houses it is said to bring intensity to married life.
Common cancellation rules
- Both partners are manglik: the dosh is traditionally considered balanced
- Mars in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn)
- Strong benefic influence, such as Jupiter's aspect on Mars or the 7th house
- Many traditions also say the effect reduces with age
Because of these rules, a large share of “manglik” charts turn out to have the dosh cancelled or mild.
Simple remedies
Traditional remedies are simple: Hanuman Chalisa, service, charity on Tuesdays, and patience. Jyotish Baba never pushes expensive pujas or gemstones.
